Step 1: Decide whether you will work alone or with a partner.
• If you choose to work with a partner, immediately exchange contact information with that person including email address and telephone number.

• Please realize that you will be graded as a pair – if one student does not live up to his or her obligation, it will be detrimental to the other student’s grade as well.
Step 2: Decide on an artist.
• Any outstandingly creative individual can be considered an artist, regardless of medium. This includes musicians, singers, actors, architects, sculptors, painters, etc. You should consider your options carefully before making your choice.

• Please present your decision to me for approval before beginning.
Step 3: Write your essay.
Be sure to include all of the following information:
• Name: What is your artist’s full name? Has their name changed? If so, what was it originally?

• Origin: In what country was your artist born? Where did he/she grow up? If still alive, where does he/she currently reside?

• Lifespan: When was your artist born? If he/she is no longer living, what was his/her date of death? If your artist is still alive, how old is he/she?

• Childhood: Where did your artist grow up? What was he/she like as a child? What childhood events helped shape his/her personality and artwork?

• Medium: What medium(s) did your artist use in his/her creative expression? What influenced him/her to choose this medium?

• Connection to the artistic community: How was your artist influenced by the artistic paradigm of his/her time? How did your artist’s creations affect that paradigm?

• Connection to the Hispanic world: What is your artist’s relationship to the Hispanic world? Does his/her artwork portray a specific lifestyle reality for his/her country? Does his/her artwork address relationships between people and cultures in the Hispanic world? Has your artist’s work influenced the perception of Hispanic artwork globally or within the artistic community? Has your artist helped create or destroy barriers of judgment and prejudice? Has your artist built cultural bridges or carried a specific message to the rest of the world? If so, what is that message?

• Place in history: Please include any political or historical events during the artist's life that may have influenced him/her.

• Uniqueness: Is your artist’s style unique? If so, why? If not, why? What differentiates his/her artwork from others of the same generation?

• Famous works: Address at least 2 famous works by your artist. What is the title of the work? When and where was it created? In what style was it created (modern or traditional)? Describe the mood of the piece (happy, sad, calm, passionate, angry, etc) and elaborate with at least 4 adjectives. Was it in response to a particular event? Does it reflect a particular cultural or political reality? What message do you believe that it is trying to convey? How does the work fit within the artistic paradigm of the time?

• Explain your choice: Why did you select this particular artist? Does the artist’s work speak to any of your personal experiences? What attracts or repulses you about his/her artwork?

• Keep track of where you obtain your information and your images! You will need to include them in your bibliography.
Step 4: Create your PowerPoint
• You will use your PowerPoint to share what you have learned with the class.

• Your PowerPoint must consist of at least 10 slides and contain at least 8 images. The images should pertain to the information contained on that specific slide. IE: A slide describing biographical information should contain a photo of your artist as a child or perhaps a photo that depicts the socioeconomic times in which he/she grew up. As you begin to discuss your artist’s most famous works, you should display slides showing us the pieces about which you are talking.

• The text in your PowerPoint should not consist of lengthy sentences. Bullet-lists of ideas/facts are sufficient. You will elaborate on the details orally as you present to the class. The bullet-lists will help you remember what to talk about, and will represent an easy visual reference for your audience.

• Although you can speak in English for your presentation, all text in your PowerPoint must be entirely in Spanish.

• You must include a bibliography at the end of your presentation listing the websites from which you obtained your information and/or images.
