1. Overview

The GC → IC Grade Transfer Tool is a Chrome extension designed to help teachers quickly and accurately copy student scores from Google Classroom into Infinite Campus. This tool was created to replace the manual grade entry process and to provide a free, transparent, locally-run alternative to commercial grade-transfer systems. The extension is open source, free to use, and runs entirely on the teacher’s device. No student data ever leaves the browser.

Install it from the Chrome Web Store. The source code is on GitHub.

2. How the Extension Works

When a teacher opens a Google Classroom assignment grades page, the extension reads the student names and scores displayed on the page. When a teacher opens an Infinite Campus gradebook, the extension identifies the currently selected assignment column so it can paste matching scores into the correct row. It works with both the classic and the newer “control-center” Infinite Campus gradebook layouts.

The workflow is:

1. Click “Copy grades from Classroom”
2. Classroom scores are temporarily stored in the browser
3. Click into any score cell in Infinite Campus
4. Click “Paste grades into Infinite Campus”
5. The extension fills scores for matching students
6. Review the scores and click Save in Infinite Campus (the extension never clicks Save for you)
7. Stored data is automatically cleared after a paste that fills every student

If some students are not filled, the extension lists them under “Not filled yet” and keeps the stored scores so you can paste again. The usual cause is that Infinite Campus only loads the rows you have scrolled to: scroll down until every row has loaded, click a score box, and paste again (tick “Only fill empty scores” to skip the ones already filled). Otherwise, a student’s name may be spelled differently in the two systems.

All processing occurs locally inside the browser.

The extension does not modify Google Classroom or Infinite Campus accounts, does not access or send data to any external server, and does not collect analytics or telemetry.

3. Privacy Policy

3.1 Data the extension accesses

The extension reads only content on the page the teacher has open. This includes student names and scores displayed in Google Classroom, and student names and score fields displayed in Infinite Campus (along with the internal row identifiers Infinite Campus uses to tie a score box to a student). No other information from Google or Infinite Campus is accessed, stored, or transmitted.

3.2 Data stored temporarily

When a teacher presses Copy, the extension stores student names and scores temporarily using the browser’s built-in extension storage. This data is stored only inside the teacher’s browser, is not sent anywhere, is automatically deleted after a paste that fills every student, and may also be cleared manually using the “Clear stored grades” button. If a paste leaves some students unfilled, the stored scores are kept so the teacher can paste again.

The extension also stores a small local counter (no student data) that is used to show a one-time request to leave a review, at most twice.

3.3 Data sent externally

None. The extension has no external servers, no network requests, no telemetry, no tracking, and no analytics. No information of any kind is transmitted outside the teacher’s device.

The popup’s optional “Copy diagnostic info” button, used only for bug reports, copies a structural description of the page (element types, counts, and ids; never student names, scores, or typed values) to the teacher’s clipboard. Nothing is sent anywhere unless the teacher chooses to paste it into a bug report.

3.4 Data retention

Temporary storage lasts only until a paste that fills every student is completed or the teacher manually clears the stored grades. After that point, the extension retains no student data.

3.5 No credential or personal data access

The extension never accesses Google account credentials, Infinite Campus credentials, cookies, personal files, browser history, or school SIS/LMS APIs. Its only function is to read the text content on the current page.

4. Permissions Disclosure

The extension uses a minimal set of permissions:

The “activeTab” permission allows the popup to communicate with whichever Classroom or Campus tab is currently active.
The “storage” permission is used only for temporary local storage of Classroom score data and the small review-request counter described above.
Host permissions are limited to pages on classroom.google.com and pages whose address contains “/campus/” (the path Infinite Campus uses on every district’s own domain).
The extension does not access any other sites.
